Japanese Man is First Example of Human Hibernation
In October 2006, a Japanese man survived for 24 days without food or water in what doctors believe is the first case of human hibernation.

Mitsutaka Uchikoshi, 35, went missing whilst on a climb with friends on Mount Rokko in Western Japan. When he was found, his body temperature had dropped to 22C, he had almost no pulse and all his organs had shut down.

Dr Shinichi Sato, who treated Mr Uchikoshi said "He fell into a hypothermic state at a very early stage, which is similar to hibernation. Therefore, his brain functions were protected without being damaged and have now recovered 100%. "
